4th of July
In honor of the 4th of July tomorrow, I'm going to give a hearty shoutout to John Witherspoon's sermon The Dominion of Providence over the Passions of Men, preached in 1776 (Princeton, NJ). It's long, but well worth reading. Witherspoon was the only clergyman to sign the Declaration of Independence and is also a forefather of Reese Witherspoon. So at least read it if you liked Walk the Line. For more on Witherspoon, see Roger Kimball's article in The New Criterion (registration required).
